Renting a car in Suriname: guide for Paramaribo

Renting a car in Suriname: prices, insurance and practical tips for driving in Paramaribo. We arrange car rental for our guests.

Renting a car in Suriname is the easiest way to explore Paramaribo and the wider country. Public transport is limited, taxis add up quickly, and with your own car you can drive to Brownsberg, Commewijne or the interior whenever you want.

What does car rental cost?

Prices start around €30–€45 per day for a compact automatic, including basic insurance. Weekly rates are cheaper for stays of two weeks or more. A 4x4 for inland trips costs €70–€100 per day.

Insurance: what to check

Always choose all-risk insurance with a low or zero deductible. Roads outside the city can be rough, and damage from potholes is common. Verify the policy covers driving outside Paramaribo.

Driving tips for Paramaribo

Traffic drives on the left. Watch for cyclists and scooters without lights, drive carefully in the city center, and prefer enclosed parking at night. A Dutch (EU) driving licence is valid for stays up to six months.
